Alqua trotted gracefully onto the track, her mane and tail flowing behind her effortlessly. She closed her eyes slightly, enjoying the wind in her face. Her jockey suddenly urged her toward the gates, where she entered willingly. The people who were watching applauded, which was when she realized she was being watched. Even better.
She pinned her ears and tossed her head as she awaited the bell. This would just be a practice race, since she had heard her human say so. She was expecting a colt here soon.

Tropical Typhoon trotted up. "Hello, Alqua. Ready to race?"

Alqua grinned, tossing her head in an excited manner. "I was born ready." She said in an almost tempting voice, before she looked forward, eyes dancing with impatience.

"Alright. Good luck." They loaded him into the gate.

She smiled, "Thanks, I wish you luck as well." She spoke, before the bell sounded and she took off running. Her legs flew with incredible speed... Well, for her height. She may be small, but Seabiscuit proved that size isn't everything. She happened to be one of those small, yet deadly speedy horses.

Typhoon surged forward. Like her, he was also small but fast. But he was eased back behind the filly.

Lessening her speed, she took a look behind her. Her jockey quickly scowled at her, and urged her to go faster. She was a better sprinter than a long-distance runner, and she knew that if her jockey urged her too fast too soon, she'd end up losing the race. By the looks of this race, it was a longer-distance race... So she stayed a bit slower than she started, although careful not to fall too far behind.

Typhoon slowly galloped along, waiting for the perfect time to strike. But the filly was relaxed, too. "Man! This is gonna be a horse race!" he shouted over the roaring wind.

Alqua laughed, "Of course it is!" She shouted back, tossing her head slightly, even though it was nearly impossible. She smiled as the wind blew around her, as if it were carving an alley for her to pass through. It was amazing to her.

The horses were approaching the far turn. Typhoon moved up a bit to Alqua's flank. I'm ready,he said to himself.

Alqua's jockey noticed that the colt was catching up, so she received a friendly tap from the jockey. Alqua, noticing this as well, sped up, hooves flying even faster. Her breathing was labored, although she didn't want to give up.

The colt sped up. They were midway in the far turn. The colt was at her stirrups now.

Alqua whickered in frustration as she pinned her ears further and sped up, almost to her top speed. She didn't want to waste her energy, but she didn't want to lose either. She wasn't annoyed by the colt, no. She was actually impressed.

Typhoon spread into another gear. His legs spread out. He was flying now, and at the filly's throatlatch!

The filly flew forward, making sure that he was at her flank. Now that he was, she kept her pace, trying to keep him from progressing on her again. As much as she enjoyed a good race, she'd like to win as well. It was in her blood.
