Aranel paced her stall, tail wrapped in colorful bandages. It had been ten months and two weeks since she was bred, and her foal was a tad bit early. Nothing to worry about, really, since she knew her foal was strong already. From the talks of the humans, they told her it was a colt. She knew better. It was most definately a filly. She snorted at the humans, wanting them to leave her in peace while she birthed, but of course, they would never leave her side. The loyalty of humans bothered her quite frequently, but at this moment, she just wanted her foal out.
Lying down, she stretched her neck during her struggles. The filly felt big, although she was sure it wasn't as big as it felt. She rolled a little, before just lying there, and before long, a small chestnut filly had been born. The humans all clapped, and one came to check it's gender. As they saw it was a filly, Aranel could only think of a few words. I told you so. She wondered why they couldn't just let it be a surprise for once in their lives. Aranel quickly moved to clean her flicka, who squealed at her. By gosh, that foal had a set of lungs on her. Perhaps it meant a winner.
As the humans shuffled, attempting to come up with a foolish name, Aranel had some thoughts of her own. Fool Proof seemed like a cool name for her flicka. Or possibly Flash By, which would symbolize speed. Surprisingly, the humans named her Flash By, Flash for short. Aranel was happy.

Fire Dancer walked into the barn. She wanted to see Aranel's new filly. "Congratulations Aranel! She's beautiful!"

Aranel pranced in delight. "Thanks!" She said, nuzzling the flicka as she stood. Flash pranced over to the mare and reached her muzzle up toward her. She was rather outgoing for a newborn.

Fire Dancer smiled. "Hello, Flash," she whickered softly.

"Ashabooga." She spoke that cute baby language that no one but the child would understand. She whickered and half-reared, full of energy. Aranel laughed at her flicka, shaking her head.

Aranel sighed, although was surprised he came by at all. "It's better than nothing at all, now isn't it?" She inquired, fully knowing that to mares foals meant more than to stallions.

"I know. I've bred with him before. The foal had a defect and he wanted to kill it, though." Dancer sighed.

Flash pinned her ears, narrowing her eyes at her father, who just yelled at the mare whom she considered a second mother simply because it was the second mare she had met in this bright, noisy world. Aranel, pulled Flash back, moving into a protective stance, only from instinct.

Dancer stood her ground. "That's how it looked from my point of view, Jack." And with that, she trotted away, tail up.
